In late October, a very special horse joined the Loudoun Therapeutic Riding herd and he needs a welcome as big as he is.  Duke is a 17-hand 15-year-old Percheron whose main job will be to pull our adaptive carriage.  Most of his herd-mates’ cost of care is covered by sponsors who stepped forward at our May Preakness Party, but Duke wasn’t with us then.  Duke needs you to step-forward now.

Our goal this Giving Tuesday is to raise $5,000 to pay for Duke’s care, and another $5,000 for a run-in shed to accommodate our “bigger” herd.

Duke comes to LTR from Millerburg, Ohio where he was broke to the plow.  His first job was as an Amish farm horse.  Later he became a carriage horse for Hershberger Farm & Bakery where you can stop in to buy a fried pie and tell them about what a great therapy horse Duke has become.

Today, Duke needs you to sponsor his care and purchase a run-in shed as big as he is.  Please give today to help us care for Duke, Loudoun Therapeutic Riding’s newest gentle giant.

Give Today and your donation will be Matched by 2 generous donors.

Duke teaches students from Shenandoah University Department of Physical Therapy about how equine assisted activities can help individuals with disabilities become stronger and more independent. As part of our mission to serve the equine services industry through training and education, LTR partners with area universities and colleges in programs such as this.

Your Donation will double if you give before December 31st.
